Outpost Elysium
Elysium was once a very valuable hub for resources and technology, but greed became the downfall of the outpost and most people moved away.
The last few years, a new leadership took control and slowly turned the tides. The carefully positive outlook was destroyed when it was revealed that the Governor had associated with raiders to protect the outpost in exchange for caps.
After the reveal, there were few other options than stepping down and now Elysium is without leadership. The question on many people’s minds is; do we even need a leadership?
About a year ago, Dukhi prospectors picked up a strange signal they thought might lead to an underground weapon near Elysium. The catch? It was uncomfortably close to a site some local mutants called holy. Thanks to careful diplomacy (and perhaps some underhand deals), the underground site was cracked open. Turns out it’s no weapon, but something way more valuable, a rare mineral. It’s very difficult to refine it, and it takes a long time, but nevertheless, it’s been a game-changer for Elysium. Within a year, many new people came to the outpost, and with them came changes.
The new dawn for Elysium
Thanks to the new mineral, Elysium has started to boom. Although the underground site has been filled in and the minerals shipped off, new settlers are pouring in, bringing fresh energy to the town. Where there’s wealth, there’s life, and Elysium is thriving like never before. But here’s the twist: while this mineral is bringing prosperity, it might also be hiding something darker. There have been side effects – mysterious symptoms that seem to spread between people, though no one can say for sure if it’s short-term or worse yet. Along with the new popularity, another change has befallen the social norms of Elysium; mutant discrimination.
Riches with a price
It’s no secret that the wild mutants out in the wastelands are brutal, and for a while now, an outside gang has been keeping them off Elysium’s back. But nothing comes free in the post-apocalypse. They used to get paid by the old governor to keep the place safe, but now these raiders are rolling into town, reminding everyone just how dangerous life can get without them, and asking recompense.
Some folks are all for it. Better to pay the price and keep the mutants at bay than face the horror outside the walls. But not everyone’s on board. Are these raiders really protecting the town, or is this just another way to squeeze Elysium dry? And if the people who live in the outpost refuse… will the raiders step aside and let the mutants in? Elysium stands divided. Some say paying is worth the peace of mind. Others are ready to refuse and take their chances.
